Im Jess Dowdy and im feeling kind of rowdy.
I step out of my house and cruise in my Audi.
Im a beast when im chilling with my girl Reese.
Im the last piece to the puzzle.
Haters talking, they need a muzzle.
A young girl on her way to be a boss, people got the game criss crossed.
I'll take you for a ride, its a thriller, inspired by my favorite rapper, Mac Miller.
Im all killer, no filler.
You listen to everyones raps and realize theres no one iller, than me.
Im undefeatable like Bruce Lee.
Im the master of climbing trees,
I hit a branch and angered all the bees
and then they stung me, and left me looking like gumby.
I took a ride to cumbies, to get a slushie.
I filled it up with that blue, because its my favorite flavor
She asked me for the money and that is what i gave her.
I hit up my cousin Xavior, he said that im his savior
because im saving him from manual labor.
Anyways im the bomb, writing mad raps for Kefor's class, Poetry of Song.

Though Rock n’ Roll Band” and “Have a Cigar” both have a similar subject matter “Rock n’ Roll Band” incorporates an energetic tone in order to show the excitement a band undergoes while becoming famous while “Have a Cigar” utilizes a forceful tone with the aim of alluring a band into becoming famous.

In “Rock n’ Roll Band”, Boston aims to make the song exciting to the listener by saying positive things about fame. While “on the road” of fame the band were all “gettin’ crazy” off of the enthusiasm they were feeling. “When I hear you on the car radio/You’re goin’ to be a sensation!” shows the emotion the band was undergoing while “on the road”. Boston also provides examples of the excitement of the band by saying things such as “ People came alive” and “Livin’ on rock-n-roll music which provokes the good things the band was going through. Throughout  song, Boston depicts the excitement a band feels while rising to fame.

While Boston’s song utilizes an exciting tone to describe their song, Pink Floyd use a different and more alluring tone. He says “Come in here, Dear boy, have a cigar.” to pull the listener in. He tries to make  music business sound more influential by saying things such as “You’re never gonna die”. By saying things like this it allures the band to want to make it big and be famous. Since an alluring tone is being used throughout this song it does not have an exciting tone such as the last one. Throughout the song he compares these two songs to display the differences of two bands making fame.

Different tones are being used throughout these two similar songs to compare how each song has a similar meaning but is portrayed in their own different ways. “Rock and Roll Band” uses an exciting tone to display the excitement of becoming famous while Boston’s song uses a more alluring tone to show that becoming famous is not all fun and games and it has its difficulties. Two songs with a similar meaning can differ so much through the use of tones.

Dave Matthews Band: "Funny the Way It Is"

In the song “Funny the Way It Is”, Dave Matthews utilizes comparative irony, first person point of view, and vivid imagery to display how “funny the way” things turn out in life. Dave Matthews shows people examples of the common yet complex way things can turn out in life through his music.
Dave Matthews uses vivid imagery throughout his song to give the listener an easier way to relate and imagine the things he viewed while writing. “Lying in the park on a beautiful day/Sunshine in the grass, and the children play” gives a perspective of the setting that is surrounding them at this point in time. It is a warm and relaxing day for many of the people in this specific area and “You hear the laughter while the children play”. Matthews also tries to express imagery while keeping this peaceful mood by making you imagine “mountains and oceans and winters and rivers and stars” because they are all relaxing things to have a vision of. Dave Matthews wants you to an aspect of the emotions he was feeling while writing this song and says “Standing on a bridge, watch the water passing under me” to  present the tranquil views he had envisioned.
Matthews utilizes comparative irony in several places throughout his song to make people witness the irony that they may come across in life every day without even realizing. Throughout the song he keeps a very peaceful view but obscurely hides the wrong and ironic things that are appearing. “On a soldier’s last breath his baby’s being born” is an ironic example because as this soldier is losing his life, a new life is being brought into the world. Although a soldier’s life is ending a new life is beginning because of dying soldier. Matthews compares an ending by death to a new beginning to life through a soldier’s child being born. As Dave said it was “a beautiful day” yet he was witnessing “Siren’s passing, fire engine red” which is ironic because on such a beautiful day you would expect everyone to be happy and peaceful but “Someone’s house is burning down on a day like this”. Considering it is such a wonderful day for you, you do not expect someone else to be having a dreadful day and it is ironic how those types of things happen in everyday life. As you are enjoying a day like this “You hear the laughter while the children play war”. The irony of that line is that children are laughing and enjoying themselves while playing war yet war is a serious and horrible thing to have to experience. As Matthews continues singing his song he presents irony while saying “Somebody’s broken heart becomes your favorite song” meaning while someone’s heart is breaking a song about it is being produces. As this song is heard by people it becomes their favorite song but to make this song it took a broken heart to occur. This song that someone really enjoys and makes them happy came from someone else’s sadness.  It is “Funny the Way” the things you come across everyday can turn out to be so ironic.
Although both irony and imagery were utilized throughout this Dave Matthews song, he also uses first person point of view. “Standing on a bridge, watch the water passing under me” is an example of this because it gives us a different perspective as to what he is feeling rather than ourselves. He is standing on a bridge watching the water himself which gives us an aspect of what he is seeing. He was “Lying in the park on a beautiful day” wondering if there is “someone up there looking down on me?”. This is an example of first person point of view because he wonders if someone is watching down on him while he is alone and he sings it as if he were talking to himself. Throughout the duration of this song Matthews questions things about himself and that revolve around him.
The Dave Matthews Band use their music to create a perspective of how “Funny the Way” things often turn out to be. He used comparative irony, first person point of view, and vivid imagery to create a new aspect of the way people look at things throughout the day. Comparing ironic objects and presenting the vivid images he was imagining helped to convey how ironic things really can turn out at the end of the day.

song analysis 1

In the song "Enchanted", Taylor Swift, utilizes passionate imagery, a realistic point of view, and unbelievable personification to express her emotions towards a person she feels was important and life changing for her to have met.

Taylor Swift uses many examples of imagery throughout the song “Enchanted” to express the emotions she is feeling about someone new coming into her life. “There I was again tonight/ Forcing laughter, faking smiles/ Same old tired lonely place” expresses that Taylor was unhappy before meeting this new person in her life. “Your eyes whispered” Have we met?”/ Across the room your silhouette/ Starts to make its way to me/ The playful conversation starts” shows that Taylor did not know this person at all but knew he was going to be an important person in her life. Imagery is shown here because as this person is on his way towards Taylor she can see his silhouette coming from across the room to talk to her.  Taylor was extremely “enchanted” to meet this new person and shows her happiness because she was “wonderstruck, blushing all the way home”. Meeting this person had made a huge impact on Taylor’s life at the time as she shows in this song by saying things such as “this night is flawless, don’t you let it go/ I’m wonderstruck, dancing around all alone/ Ill spend forever wondering if you knew/ I was enchanted to meet you”. “2 AM, who do you love? /I wonder ‘til I’m wide awake/And now I’m pacing back and forth/ Wishing you were at my door” shows that she had really cared about him and wished she knew if he had felt the same way.

Through out the song, Taylor also uses a realistic point of view so that people listening can relate to the song very well. In her songs she sings about her own life experiences and this one is about meeting someone new. "shifting eyes and vacancy/ vanished when I saw your face" shows that she is singing about herself and her ow emotions towards this certain person. Before meeting this boy Taylor felt out of place and un-welcome but as soon as she saw this boy she felt as if she was "enchanted to meet" him. "And now I'm pacing back and forth, wishing you were at my door" proves that Taylor is "wonderstruck"  about meeting him. As soon as she met him she feels like it had completely changed something in her life. She expresses the way she is feeling by saying "I was enchanted to meet you" because she wants to keep seeing this boy. Through out the song she uses her point of view to show how her encounter with this person had made her feel.

Also, personification is used throughout this song to display the emotions Taylor was feeling before and after meeting this boy. Before she did not feel welcome and their were "Walls of insincerity" because people did not give her the right respect until she met this boy.  One example of this is when Taylor was having her first encounter with this person and says "Your eyes whispered 'Have we met?'" because while looking into his eyes she knew he was feeling the same way as her even without speaking. When she sees him his "silhouette starts to make it's way" towards her because he had also seen her and had an interest in meeting her. As the night goes on she begins to fall for him and she uses this intense personification to portray that. "This night is sparkling" shows that because Taylor had met this boy her night became magnificent and she was enjoying it. She feels as if "this night is flawless" and nothing could possibly go wrong because she has this person by her side.

Through the song "Enchanted", Taylor Swift uses several different literary devices such as imagery, point of view, and personification to portray the way Taylor was feeling. She felt as though her life had changed within an instant and this point in her life was  extremely important.

Enchanted - Taylor Swift

"Enchanted"
  Taylor Swift

There I was again tonight
Forcing laughter, faking smiles
Same old tired lonely place

Walls of insincerity,
Shifting eyes and vacancy
Vanished when I saw your face

All I can say is it was enchanting to meet you

Your eyes whispered "Have we met? "
Across the room your silhouette
Starts to make its way to me
The playful conversation starts
Counter all your quick remarks
Like passing notes in secrecy

And it was enchanting to meet you
All I can say is I was enchanted to meet you

This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you

The lingering question kept me up
2 AM, who do you love?
I wonder 'til I'm wide awake
And now I'm pacing back and forth
Wishing you were at my door
I'd open up and you would say, "Hey,
It was enchanting to meet you,
All I know is I was enchanted to meet you"

This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you know
This night is flawless, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, dancing around all alone
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you

This is me praying that
This was the very first page
Not where the story line ends
My thoughts will echo your name
Until I see you again
These are the words I held back
As I was leaving too soon
I was enchanted to meet you

Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you
Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you

This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you know
This night is flawless, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, dancing around all alone
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you

Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you

Little Green analysis

In the song “Little Green”, Joni Mitchell, uses bittersweet imagery, emotional characterization, and pure symbolism in order to convey the hard times and sacrifices involved with parting with a child or a loved one.

Mitchell uses many different forms of imagery throughout the song “Little Green” to help the listener better understand the sacrifices this woman had to make for her child. “So you sign all the papers in the family name/ you’re sad and you’re sorry but you’re not ashamed.” expresses the difficulties this women had to go through to make sure her child would be able to live a good life. She did not want to give her child up but she knew it would be better off for little green and did not feel ashamed for the choice she had to make knowing “sometimes there’ll be sorrow”. In hope of getting her spouse back the women wrote a letter to him saying “Her eyes are blue” so he would know something about his daughter. This letter helped not only the child’s father but the reader be able to picture the daughter that was soon becoming an orphan to “have a happy ending”. The imagery in the song also helps to show how beautiful little green is by comparing her to “the Northern lights” and “the color when the spring is born”.

Emotional characterization is used in many places throughout this Joni Mitchell song to express the sad yet faithful emotions this woman has to deal with. She has faith that by giving her daughter up for adoption she will have a better life and it will be better off that way. She understands that “sometimes there’ll be sorrow” but she also understands that it is what Little Green needs to grow up and have a good life. Although it wont be perfect it is best for little green to be adopted so she can grow up in the right kid of environment. “There’ll be icicles and birthday clothes/ and sometimes there’ll be sorrow” because as every year goes on little green has to get older and her mother has to deal with the pain of her not being with her daughter. “Your sad and your sorry” shows that the mother does not completely want to give her daughter up but she knows that its right. She is upset about this because she loves her daughter and wishes she could be the one to watch her grow older.

Pure symbolism is used through out this song to show the symbolism of little green and her mother to the listener. “Call her green and the winters cannot fade her” symbolises that little green will live a good and happy life. When Mitchell says “Little green, hes a non- conformer” it symbolises the way her father is and why he is not around. No matter what the mother tells the father he will not change his ways. “Little green, have a happy ending” symbolises that in the long run she will have a better life with someone who is ready to take care of a child rather than a mother who is not. Little green is compared to “the nights when the norther lights perform” to symbolise her beauty and the beautiful women she will become.

In the Joni Mitchell song “Little Green” many forms of symbolism, imagery, and characterization are portrayed throughout the lyrics. These literary devices help hide the message of a mother giving up her daughter. Although it is a hidden story in the song it shows the hardships you have to go through to make such a life turning decision.
