Though Rock n’ Roll Band” and “Have a Cigar” both have a similar subject matter “Rock n’ Roll Band” incorporates an energetic tone in order to show the excitement a band undergoes while becoming famous while “Have a Cigar” utilizes a forceful tone with the aim of alluring a band into becoming famous.

In “Rock n’ Roll Band”, Boston aims to make the song exciting to the listener by saying positive things about fame. While “on the road” of fame the band were all “gettin’ crazy” off of the enthusiasm they were feeling. “When I hear you on the car radio/You’re goin’ to be a sensation!” shows the emotion the band was undergoing while “on the road”. Boston also provides examples of the excitement of the band by saying things such as “ People came alive” and “Livin’ on rock-n-roll music which provokes the good things the band was going through. Throughout  song, Boston depicts the excitement a band feels while rising to fame.

While Boston’s song utilizes an exciting tone to describe their song, Pink Floyd use a different and more alluring tone. He says “Come in here, Dear boy, have a cigar.” to pull the listener in. He tries to make  music business sound more influential by saying things such as “You’re never gonna die”. By saying things like this it allures the band to want to make it big and be famous. Since an alluring tone is being used throughout this song it does not have an exciting tone such as the last one. Throughout the song he compares these two songs to display the differences of two bands making fame.

Different tones are being used throughout these two similar songs to compare how each song has a similar meaning but is portrayed in their own different ways. “Rock and Roll Band” uses an exciting tone to display the excitement of becoming famous while Boston’s song uses a more alluring tone to show that becoming famous is not all fun and games and it has its difficulties. Two songs with a similar meaning can differ so much through the use of tones.
